Chocolate Frosting

Equipment

  • microwave
  • glass bowl at least 1 quart
  • pint jar

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tbsp clarified butter
  • 6 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk 14 oz can
  • dash salt
  • 2 tbsp cold water
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • melt clarified butter in 1 quart or larger glass bowl in microwave
  • gradually stir in cocoa powder until dissolved
  • stir in condensed milk
  • microwave covered until boiling, stopping every 30 seconds to stir
  • stir in dash of salt
  • stir in cold water until smooth
  • stir in vanilla extract
  • transfer to pint jar and cool completely at room temperature

Notes

This recipe is based on Teresa in CO's recipe on food.com. Using cocoa powder with clarified butter instead of baking chocolate gives the frosting a more buttery flavor.  Regular melted butter may not work as the cocoa powder may not dissolve in it due to the lower fat content.
